Japan: Project Manager (Medecins Sans Frontieres Japon)

Purpose of the position

The Project Manager, as a member of the Japan Innovation Unit, will support field staff, advisors, MSF professionals and MSF Japan teams to identify, develop and implement projects within MSF. He/she will act as a specialist and provide the required know how to carry on the projects as well as manage directly activities when required.

Objectives / Main Responsibilities

The Project Manager is accountable for:

  • Project manage specific dossier and project assigned to the Unit (ex. Revision of business processes, ideation of specific solution for field challenges, development of rapid prototypes, development of field induction program, etc.);

  • Supporting field staff, advisors and MSF professional to define cases to address challenges in the field;

  • Contributing or leading events and training organized by the Japan Innovation Unit;

  • Contributing to establish the more suitable methodology to respond to request from MSF field operations;

  • Developing further the network of partners in Japan and Asia.

Requirements of the position

Place to work:

80% - MSF Japan Tokyo Office (at Waseda Station, Tokyo Metro Tozai Line)
20% - estimated overall time spent in international travels

Qualifications and requirements

Essential

  • At least 2 years of work experience in project management;

  • Fluency in English

  • Strong Project management skills in its entire component.

  • Ability to represent MSF and negotiate at senior level. Rigorous, synthetic, able to present complex information in a simple way. Ability to work autonomously and generate engagement at a distance including outside of own department.

  • Strong interpersonal skills

  • Ability to absorb rapidly new information and change course

  • Microsoft Office advanced

Desirable

  • Design thinking / Human-centred design methodology or similar

  • Previous field humanitarian experience;

  • Previous experience in Innovation or R&D;

  • Good sketching and visual representation skills;

  • Experience in qualitative research methods.

  • Japanese language
